February

Catching up on February! I did a Hard Gel Conversion course this month with Francesca Gomm of F.G. Studio and Academy in Plymouth and brushed up on E-filing, One stroke  painting,  and had a real Nail Play Weekend. Lots of glitters and pigments, paints,  swapped ideas and had a few treatments. Have to mention the Boob Buster, a fab treatment and I can’t believe that it worked. Its so good I’m doing the course next month! Read more here

I took part in an online course yesterday via Periscope with Dega Mosane in which she showed various One Stroke, Zhostovo and Foil techniques. That’s on the agenda tomorrow too. I have a set of lashes to do later this afternoon then no  more clients til Wednesday so lots of time to get messy and get all my pretties out! Pics to follow.

I’m also working on my new site www.lcbta.co.uk which was launched last week. You will find  nail and beauty training courses here which I am adding to all of the time. I’m off to Plymouth on Friday for advanced training in various techniques and skills, more details to come! I also have a new Facebook page linked to that site. Come along and have a look.

One Stroke Christmas Cakes

Charity Christmas Cakes – Painted with One stroke technique

Back in November I agreed to decorate 2 cakes for Christmas for a a Devon Hospital Charity. My client Cath’s husband Tom has made 13 cakes and has decorated 11 of them beautifully. Cath and I had spoken about the One stroke wedding cake I painted last year so I agreed to decorate 2 of the cakes for charity.

To begin – the bare cakes

Ready to start. The bare cakes

Ready to start. The bare cakes

I played around a little on card before I committed brush to cake. Using powdered food colouring pigments and alcohol I painted both cakes slightly different to each other. I painted an assortment of Poinsettia, holly, ivy and stylised Christmas trees aided by a glass of wine or two.

These cakes are FULL of fruit. I had them on a small turntable which made painting them much easier. The leaves and petals were painted using the One Stroke method which makes painting quick and easy. Details are added after the main leaves are painted. I used a variety of flat brushes, angled brushes and fine detail brushes and kept to a mainly Red and green palate.

Tom decorated 11 of his cakes but decided he’d like to learn how to paint them with One Stroke so he has had his first lesson. Watch out next year for his decorated cakes!

Susie’s Nail Art

Floral Design Hand Painted Custom Nail Art – Susie Edwards

Susie’s always loved Shellac Hot Chillis, and being a florist, began having hand painted flower nail art on accent nails. Over the years these have progressed to ladybirds, robins, toadstools and even a painting of her little dog Nutty. One Stroke poppies, pansies, seasonal designs with holly, ivy, Halloween designs and her favourite classic Dior Half Moons which she used to practice in the sixties, also being a model for the Dior School.

With reinforcement over her natural nails and regular IBX treatments Susie’s nails have remained strong and healthy and her nail art is a talking point wherever she goes!

May-be Time to Treat Yourself!

May-be Treat Time!

May is coming… time to get Summer ready. I’m getting ready for a holiday and as a treat I’m having a little pamper! Exfoliating winter skin away, applying deep treatments to my face, hands, feet, elbows and knees,  polishing finger and toenails, defining my brows, lifting my lashes (as I can’t get to my regular lash lady!) and waxing all necessary areas! This shouldn’t be a May Treat, I should practice what I preach and do it ALL the time!

Holiday Time

I will be away until 13th May then I will be doing extra days to catch up on my return. Join my mailing list to be the first to hear of Special Offers and new treatments and nail goodies! Click here to register Mole End Design Special Offers and receive monthly emails with discounts for you.

April Treatments

April has been a very varied month for nails and lashes. Lash Lift has been very popular as it’s a zero maintenance treatment and adds so much to your lashes. I love doing Lash Extensions but so many ladies have fabulous natural lashes that just need a little lift and tint and get amazing results for 6-8 weeks!  I’ve used coloured lashes this month on some of my extensions, fabulous in the sunshine and when the light catches them! They are very subtle but look amazing.

April Nails

Nails designs have been varied this month. It started Dark and Wintry and ended all Springlike (see Spring – Have we missed it?) I’ve taken delivery of lots of new  polishes, Nail Effects, Bling and Glitter, Angel Paper, tools and lots of surprises ready for May. I’ve also attended 2 Online Nail Art Courses – watch this space for the results! I’ve also had Some Ela Loszczyk Training DVDs for my birthday www.elaloszczyk.co.uk/ and these look great! I can’t wait to get started. I’ve ordered more materials to complete the new designs, now it’s just a case of waiting for delivery and finding time to do them.

One Stroke Painting Designs

Hello february

This month is all about One Stroke Designs!

It’s been a while since I’ve added to the blog! I’ve been on holiday but I’m back in the swing now. I had a manic week last week catching up and I now have a little breather. I’m putting together some One stroke samples, tips and nail designs for my upcoming class. I will be holding courses teaching this technique, among others in the very near future. One Stroke or Onestroke? I can’t decide!

One stroke mixing paint

Double loading the paintbrush for Onestroke

One stroke brush close up

Close up of a double loaded Onestroke brush

Onestroke is always popular and such an easy technique to master. The paint brush is double or triple loaded with paint and applied to your surface creating simple leaves and shapes. It is these basic shapes which can be used for all designs. Simple basic shapes can produce the following designs quickly and easily.

  • Simple flowers
  • Layered flowers
  • Closed leaves
  • Roses
  • Lilies
  • Butterflies
  • Foliage
  • Grasses

Would you like to learn this technique? I will  take you through the basics of proper brush loading, brush care and of course the strokes that you need to complete each design. More details to follow.

One stroke sample nails sheet

One stroke samples painted onto a printed sheet. These are Level 1 Onestroke.

A little one stroke flower can add the finishing touches to a manicure. Add in some fine linework and you can create stunning designs with a little practice. Some of the pictures below are from a couple of years ago, I will be adding the new designs and practice sheets as I finish them. I’m finding it very therapeutic!

One Stroke Painting has been around for many years. Donna Dewberry is a great resource for ideas and tips. See Painters Online for Basic Techniques of One-Stroke Flower Petal Painting Donna Dewberry tips

Practice sheets for Onestroke designs

I practice on many surfaces before committing to nail tips or real nails. Matte laminated sheets are ideal to paint on as the paint grips really well, just like a prepared surface. Parchment paper is another good surface. I prepared some print outs so I can design to basic nail shapes in order to fit the designs in.

More from the Weekend

Alex_glitter_natural-nails

Natural Nails with Glitter – another angle

Alex arrived with beautifully coloured and sparkly nails with a stamped decal. They were beautiful but unfortunately she cracked one so we decided to fix it. She removed the gel polish from the affected nail, then removed rest and we decided I’d demo one of the techniques she liked on her nails. This is Gelish polish with silver pigment, fine silver glitter burnished onto the base blue, chunky hexagonal glitter sprinkled  and top coat for a final glistening finish.

stamper-_creative

The Creative Stamper

This stamper is one of the best for transferring images from your stamping plates. It’s soft and sticky and holds an image really well. Images are crisp and clear. This stamper allows you to pick up a larger area of an image, especially good for long or large nails. Works well for decals, an ideal large working surface. It has a white translucent appearance so all colours (including white) can be clearly seen when transferring, aiding positioning.

One-stroke-sheet

One Stroke practice

Alex Practicing One Stroke leaves. She’s doing very well and her leaves and flowers are really taking shape. We used various brushes, paints and papers for a wide range of effects. Working from worksheets and demonstration sheets, it’s easy to learn this lovely technique.
