Susie’s Nail Art

Floral Design Hand Painted Custom Nail Art – Susie Edwards

Susie’s always loved Shellac Hot Chillis, and being a florist, began having hand painted flower nail art on accent nails. Over the years these have progressed to ladybirds, robins, toadstools and even a painting of her little dog Nutty. One Stroke poppies, pansies, seasonal designs with holly, ivy, Halloween designs and her favourite classic Dior Half Moons which she used to practice in the sixties, also being a model for the Dior School.

With reinforcement over her natural nails and regular IBX treatments Susie’s nails have remained strong and healthy and her nail art is a talking point wherever she goes!

Susie was off on a holiday and wanted a reminder of her little dog Nutty. I painted a few samples first before attempting it on her nails. Remembrance Day was also coming up so I did a One Stroke poppy on her right hand accent fingernail.

One Stroke Painting Designs

Hello february

This month is all about One Stroke Designs!

It’s been a while since I’ve added to the blog! I’ve been on holiday but I’m back in the swing now. I had a manic week last week catching up and I now have a little breather. I’m putting together some One stroke samples, tips and nail designs for my upcoming class. I will be holding courses teaching this technique, among others in the very near future. One Stroke or Onestroke? I can’t decide!

Onestroke is always popular and such an easy technique to master. The paint brush is double or triple loaded with paint and applied to your surface creating simple leaves and shapes. It is these basic shapes which can be used for all designs. Simple basic shapes can produce the following designs quickly and easily.

  • Simple flowers
  • Layered flowers
  • Closed leaves
  • Roses
  • Lilies
  • Butterflies
  • Foliage
  • Grasses

Would you like to learn this technique? I will  take you through the basics of proper brush loading, brush care and of course the strokes that you need to complete each design. More details to follow.

A little one stroke flower can add the finishing touches to a manicure. Add in some fine linework and you can create stunning designs with a little practice. Some of the pictures below are from a couple of years ago, I will be adding the new designs and practice sheets as I finish them. I’m finding it very therapeutic!

One Stroke Painting has been around for many years. Donna Dewberry is a great resource for ideas and tips. See Painters Online for Basic Techniques of One-Stroke Flower Petal Painting Donna Dewberry tips

Practice sheets for Onestroke designs

I practice on many surfaces before committing to nail tips or real nails. Matte laminated sheets are ideal to paint on as the paint grips really well, just like a prepared surface. Parchment paper is another good surface. I prepared some print outs so I can design to basic nail shapes in order to fit the designs in.

Onestroke Poppies – very popular!

After finishing the cake, it was a pleasure to paint small again. Poppies are always popular and I painted 3 sets in one week. I painted these using Elit Master Paints from Liliya Nigmutallina. These are really dense paints and are specially created for Onestroke and Zhostovo work.  The clients asked for Onestroke Poppies on accent fingers only.

Fran was off for a family Photoshoot to the Battlefields of Ypres and decided to have early poppies painted. Base coat of Shellac Wildfire and Blackpool with Additives on the middle and pinky finger. Gel over natural nails.

These nails were for Susie, the florist responsible for the floral display (Susie Edwards Floral Design) and the commissioning of the cake. She decided she’d like poppies on Shellac Hot Chillies on her ring fingers for Part One of the wedding. For Part Two in Azerbaijan Susie asked for Poppies over Wildfire.

The final poppies for the week. Onestroke Poppies painted on Ann’s Ring and Middle finger. Gel polish over natural nails. I really enjoyed doing these nails! I’ve painted a lot of plain nails this month – it’s always a pleasure to get creative!

I’m hoping to have more time in November to practice new designs and techniques, I have a couple of online courses in the pipeline and I’m toying with the idea of airbrushing. A friend is on the case with a compressor winging it’s way to me.  I may be proficient in time for the festive season!

Remembrance Sunday is only 4 weeks away – I wonder if I’m asked to do any more Poppies!

October News and a Wedding Cake

It’s been a while! I haven’t had time to post for absolutely ages but I’m now trying to catch up. I thought I could see the light at the end of the tunnel but now have 5 websites to update as they all need to be mobile and tablet friendly, not to mention Google friendly. I’ve decided to delete the Mybrowzdorset site as everything is now covered on this Mole End Design site, this will be removed over the next few days.

I’ve been working on a monster wedding cake, decorating it with onestroke techniques, full blog post to follow. The wedding is today so hopefully will have permission to post the lot! These are the paintings I submitted in order to get the job. It’s taken up a lot of my time but it was worth it… I hope!

I’ve been to Sunderland for a mini break and while there had volume eyelash extensions applied by the brilliant Deb Callaghan at Essential Beauty. She created a lovely glamorous volume set for me, I absolutely love them! I have taken about 50 pics on my phone but cannot get a decent shot! It’s on my list to practice more new techniques for the latest looks in lashes. I’m inspired! New offers coming soon for an increased lash menu.  I just have to concentrate on one thing at a time! no limits to achieve

I also managed to squeeze in another course and am now qualified in full body waxing. I had a great time on the course but wasn’t expecting to have to subject myself to another student! Ouch! Learned lots and now making plans for the future!
